Birth Doula Support

I am not currently offering birth doula support.

If you would like help in finding other local doulas then please don't hesitate to get in touch.

How and where you choose to birth does not matter to me. What matters is that you feel respected, confident and supported every step of the way.

You should never feel alone when you have your baby. You are the epitome of strength and power when you are giving birth, but to feel this you need to know you are supported and your space is protected. In centuries gone by, you would have given birth within the care and support network of your tribe. Now, times have changed. Because of how separated families and communities are, it has become normal to birth with very few people at your side.

You will have unconditional support

As your birth doula I will be a consistent presence along the journey with you. I will accompany you through the process of preparing for birth, and support you in labour and as you birth your baby. This support is physical, practical and emotional, and is offered unconditionally and without judgement.

I am not a medical professional and so I don’t replace the role of a midwife or doctor. On the contrary, I works alongside them as an extra part of your care team. Navigating the maternity system, and processing information to make decisions can be overwhelming. With a birth doula you can feel calm knowing someone will remind you of questions to ask, helping you explore what is best for you and your baby.

As your doula I am there with you, and for you

I can’t provide a rigid description of what I will do as your birth doula because only you know what you might need. Every element of care is tailored to you and your family.

Your needs might be around antenatal preparation and finding answers to questions you didn’t know you had. That may or may not involve Hypnobirthing, but it naturally tends to find its way in. Creating the perfect birth environment might be what you need. That could be setting up your birth pool at home or it could be bringing home into your hospital room. I can guide you into deep relaxation and hypnosis, or I can help your partner to do the same. My job will be to protect the environment so you are calm and feel safe throughout.

Your needs come first

I can be hands on, or hands off though you might not know right now what you’ll want. You may want someone to physically support you into more comfortable positions. Your body might gain comfort from massage and counter pressure, but I never underestimate the power of a cuddle and the squeeze of your hand. Your mind and body are focusing on birth, your partner is focusing on you. So, the little things can be taken care of by me; a snack, drink, reading a story to your other children. Your birth partner will be confident in their role, and they’ll find encouragement from me if they tire.

Before you go into labour you will feel fully informed and prepared, but should you need to make decisions along the way, I will give you the confidence you need. I will be your advocate, and more importantly I will help you and your partner to feel empowered enough to advocate for yourself

Beyond the moment of birth

When I leave is up to you. You might want support in initiating feeding, you might want reassurance for the first hours. Whatever happens, it will be when you are settled, comfortable and happy. In your own time and when you are ready, we can arrange a postnatal Doula session.
